On June 5, local time, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) released the "Green Digital Enterprise 2025" report. The report stated that due to the large amount of energy required to power data centers, the indirect carbon emissions generated by the operations of four leading technology companies with artificial intelligence as the core field, Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet and Meta, increased by an average of 150% between 2020 and 2023. Indirect emissions include emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling consumed by the company. The report shows that compared with three years ago, Amazon's operational carbon emissions in 2023 increased the most, reaching 182%, Microsoft 155%, Meta 145% and Alphabet 138%.
