CATL responds to the new national standard for power batteries: It requires joint efforts from the entire industry to complete

The mandatory national standard "Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles" (GB38031-2025), formulated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, was recently released. This new national standard is the first in the world to require that batteries "do not catch fire or explode after thermal runaway due to internal short circuit." CATL responded to reporters that this requires the joint efforts of car companies and battery manufacturers to complete. As early as 2020, CATL proposed and mass-produced batteries equipped with the first generation of non-thermal diffusion (NP) technology, which did not catch fire or explode, meeting the requirements of the new national standard 6 years ahead of schedule. At present, CATL is still continuing to iterate NP technology, including NP2.0, which can achieve active separation of high voltage and flue gas, and NP3.0, which can achieve "thermal runaway without smoke."
