Chinese electric car maker BYD announced on Friday that it had won a reputation infringement case and was awarded 2.0187 million yuan in damages.

In July last year, BYD's legal department announced that it had formally sued a self-media account, claiming that it had "published a large amount of inaccurate information over a long period of time, maliciously denigrating and demeaning BYD, which has caused serious damage to BYD's brand reputation".

Some of the posts on Weibo from the self-media account show that it is concerned about videos of electric car fires forwarded by netizens and Great Wall Motor's report on BYD's use of "low-pressure fuel tanks".

BYD received a court ruling on the reputation dispute on Thursday, indicating that a court ordered the defendant to delete the infringing statements and apologize for the damage.

According to BYD's announcement, the court also required the defendant to compensate BYD for economic losses and other damages totaling 2,018,700 yuan, which is less than the amount of 5 million yuan sued for.
