Airbus faces tough battle to meet annual delivery target as engine shortage drags down production

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus needs to deliver aircraft at a record pace to meet its annual targets, industry sources and analysts said on Monday. The world's largest aircraft manufacturer's delivery target for this year is a 7% year-on-year increase to 820 jets, but has been hit by delayed receipt of engines and cabin equipment. Aircraft deliveries determine a company's revenue and cash flow generation and also affect airlines' growth plans. It is worth mentioning that Airbus has been locked in a tug-of-war with engine manufacturer CFM as airlines scramble for spare engines, which competes with the demand for new aircraft assembly lines. The company said in July that it was also facing engine delivery delays from Pratt & Whitney.
