Asia Tech Wire (Oct 23) -- Meituan began operating China's first drone delivery route located in a border crossing area on Wednesday.
According to Meituan, this is China's first regularized drone delivery route located in a border crossing area, with the landing point at Futian Port Commercial Plaza.
After the opening of the route, people traveling between Hong Kong and Shenzhen every day can pick up their goods at the landing point as soon as 10 minutes after placing an order for takeout near the port.
Public information shows that Meituan started the drone delivery project from 2017. And in early 2021, Meituan drones completed the first order delivery task for real users in Shenzhen.
Wang Xing, CEO of Meituan, disclosed in an internal letter in September that Meituan drones have operated 31 routes in Shenzhen, Shanghai and other Chinese cities, and have completed more than 300,000 orders.
