Asian Tech Press (Nov 1) -- Taiwanese chip supplier MediaTek Inc. will reportedly raise the price of WiFi 6 chipsets again in the first quarter of 2022, a hike of about 10%.
The Economic Daily News, Taiwan's largest financial newspaper, reported on Monday that US semiconductor company Broadcom has given priority to supplyingApple amid material shortages, which has further tightened the supply of WiFi 6 chipsets, while major foundries are likely to raise their quotes again in the first quarter of next year.
MediaTek and another Taiwanese netcom-related chip supplier Realtek, have been rumoured to raise WiFi 6 chipset prices again in Q1 2022 to reflect rising costs, by about 10%, which is expected to further push up product sales per unit prices.
Semiconductor manufacturers have not commented on the price of their products, including MediaTek.
Previously, MediaTek had already increased the price of WiFi 6 chipsets by about 20% to 30% in the current quarter due to extended chip lead times and frequent increases in foundry prices.
