Epic Games Store Will 'Welcome' NFT Games After Steam Bans Them

Asian Tech Press (OCT 18) -- Epic Games said it welcomes any game that contains NFT or cryptocurrency elements and will not ban such games from its platform but will set restrictions for blockchain games.

The virtual asset NFT is becoming increasingly popular and can be used to trade paintings, sounds, videos, and other artworks, and virtual game props and land. However, the US gaming platform Steam has recently announced that all blockchain games are banned from its shelves.

Epic Games said it welcomes any game that contains NFT or cryptocurrency elements and will not ban such games from its platform, but also said that it will set restrictions for blockchain games, for example, the game must comply with financial laws, clearly state how blockchain technology is used, and implement age restrictions accordingly. In addition, developers will not be able to use Epic's payment channels for cryptocurrency transactions and will need to use third-party payment systems instead.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said that while the company has no plans to enter the NFT sector, it is open to it and hopes to work further with early adopters of blockchain technology.
