Asian Tech Press (Jan 05) -- Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess said on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that classic models always evoke fond memories, and the Beetle is indeed a very classic model. They are actively thinking about extending this classic heritage to the electric car segment.
Diess revealed that having considered the Beetle as well as other classics, a special replica of a classic model for China is also possible if there is a big enough call for it.
Volkswagen was founded in 1937 and the Volkswagen Beetle was born in 1938. The Beetle is the first model of Volkswagen and one of the longest-running models. With its unique body design and long history, the Beetle has accumulated sales of more than 20 million units in 82 years. However, as Beetle sales continued to decline, Volkswagen decided to discontinue the Beetle. in July 2019, the last Beetle car left the production line in Mexico, and Volkswagen Germany, a car model that was introduced nearly 70 years ago, officially ceased production.
