Asia Tech Wire (Oct 15) -- The U.S. plans to restrict Nvidia, AMD and other companies from selling AI chips to some countries, with a focus on Gulf countries, according to Bloomberg.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the report said that U.S. government officials have discussed restricting the sale of advanced AI chips by U.S. companies such as Nvidia and AMD to specific countries.

The people said the new rules would cap export licenses to certain countries in the interest of national security.

The US government is focusing on Gulf countries, which have a growing need for AI data centers and the financial strength to fund them, these people said.

However, according to the report, the deliberations are in the early stages and may still be subject to change.
