Asian Tech Press -- U.S. government on Monday asked two federal courts to dismiss the Department of Justice (DOJ)'s legal challenges to the TikTok ban, according to Reuters.
Last month, The U.S Commerce Department revoked prohibited transactions with ByteDance's TikTok, Tencent's WeChat, following the Biden administration's withdrawal of a series of Trump-era executive orders that sought to ban new downloads of some Chinese apps.
The U.S. DOJ said on Monday that its legal challenges are now moot, because the government asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and the Third Circuit to reject its appeals of a ruling that prevented the TikTok ban from taking effect.
At present, the Justice Department has no decisions on how to proceed in its appeals.
For another Chinese app Wechat, the U.S. government is in talks with lawyers for Wechat users "about appropriate next steps in this appeal." It plans to inform a court of the decision by July 26.
