Asia Tech Wire (Oct 15) -- U.K. Business and Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds has reiterated that the country does not intend to impose tariffs on Chinese electric cars.

Speaking at an international investment summit organized by the British government on Monday, Reynolds said that the UK does not intend to follow the European Union and impose tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China, as the UK automotive industry has not yet formally requested the UK Trade Remedies Authority to conduct an anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles.

He also criticized the previous British government for doing too little to promote relations with China, saying the UK "needs more engagement with China."

Reynolds said in July at a meeting of trade ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) that the United Kingdom would not follow the European Union in imposing high tariffs on electric cars imported from China.
