Asian Tech Press (Dec 07) -- According to media reports, after LG New Energy announced that it would invest $1.36 billion to expand its North American electric vehicle battery production capacity, Toyota has also announced that it will build a battery factory in North Carolina, USA.
Toyota announced on its official website the construction of a battery plant in North Carolina, which will be built in Greensboro-Randolph Megasite, and Toyota will invest $1.29 billion for the plant.
Toyota's North Carolina battery plant, which Toyota and Toyota Tsusho will jointly invest in, is expected to create 1,750 jobs after the plant is completed.
Toyota's North Carolina plant, scheduled to go into operation in 2025, will have four production lines after completion, each of which can deliver enough batteries for 200,000 vehicles per year. Toyota has also set aside room for expansion of the plant to at least six production lines in the future, which could produce the batteries needed for 1.2 million vehicles per year.
