Asia Tech Wire (Oct 16) -- Toyota, Honda and Nissan have agreed to strengthen cooperation on automotive software development, according to Yomiuri Shimbun.

The three Japanese automakers plan to harmonize standards for vehicle control systems, such as how doors and windows open and close and how windshield wipers operate.

Wednesday's report said the collaboration will focus on advancing the harmonization of API standards, which are specifications for interfaces between various types of software and systems.

The harmonization of API standards will allow software from different vendors to be common to a wide range of vehicles, allowing software developers to enter the market more easily.

In addition, Toyota, Honda and Nissan are also considering further cooperation in the field of autonomous driving in the future.
