Taiwan game developer Softstar sells IP rights of Xuan-Yuan Sword, Legend of Sword and Fairy

Asia Tech Wire (Sep 12) -- Taiwan-based game developer Softstar Entertainment Inc. has announced the sales of the intellectual property rights of two video games, Xuan-Yuan Sword and Legend of Sword and Fairy, for a total of about NT$500 million.

Softstar passed a board resolution on Wednesday, confirming the disposal of the global intellectual property (IP) of Xuan-Yuan Sword and Legend of Sword and Fairy, except for mainland China.

Softstar said it will transfer the global IP of Xuan-Yuan Sword to Huandong (Hongkong) Technology Ltd. for US$10.45 million (approximately NT$300 million).

Meanwhile, the buyer of Legend of Sword and Fairy's global IP was CMGE Technology Group Ltd., for a transaction consideration of $18.3 million in cash and 38 million newly issued ordinary shares of CMGE, totaling nearly NT$200 million.

In August 2021, CMGE acquired 49% of Softstar Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Softstar, and all the interests of the Legend of Sword and Fairy IP in mainland China for HK$641.84 million.

To date, CMGE has completed the acquisition of the entire interest in Legend of Sword and Fairy.
