Asian Tech Press (Jan 5) -- Japanese electronics company Sony Group Corp. announced Tuesday the founding of an electric vehicle company, aiming to explore the commercialization of its EV business.
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas the company will establish an electric car company called "Sony Mobility Inc." in the spring of 2022 to commercialize its electric cars.
In addition, Sony also unveiled an SUV-type prototype vehicle "VISION-S 02", a new version of the firm's first prototype "VISION-S 01" that is being tested on public roads.
Yoshida stressed that the SUV upholds the first priority of safety and said that a total of 40 sensors for detection are installed inside and outside the vehicle to ensure passenger safety.
Sony previously unveiled its prototype VISION-S at the CES last year, which was designed in collaboration with participants including Magna and Bosch.
