Sony, the leading company in image sensors, has bet on artificial intelligence in recent years.

According to media reports, Sony plans to manufacture TVs, smartphones and cameras using robots in the future. The company will turn its attention to services to drive sales of consumer electronics applications.

Kimio Maki, head of Sony's electronics business, said the acceleration of factory automation would be combined with a greater focus on online sales and data analytics to cut manufacturing costs and will also help reduce product defects.

In November 2019, the company announced the establishment of the Sony AI division to advance the fundamental research and development of artificial intelligence technology.

The division combines fundamental R&D in AI technology with Sony's unique technology assets, particularly imaging and sensing solutions, robotics, and entertainment (games, music, and movies), to drive transformation in all existing business areas and spawn new businesses.
