Asian Tech Press (Dec 20) -- According to industry sources, Samsung has set up a new China team, marking a change in Samsung's strategy to re-enter Asia's largest market, which local manufacturers already dominate.
Industry insiders said Samsung Electronics' new special team, called the China Business Innovation Team, is dedicated to a variety of businesses from cell phones to semiconductor chips to achieve a sales breakthrough in one of the world's largest IT markets.
The new team consists of two divisions, one supporting human resources management and marketing, and the other composed of members of the mobile devices, home appliances, displays and semiconductors divisions. The team will report directly to Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee, the head of DX (Device Experience), the newly combined mobile device and home appliance division.
Samsung declined to confirm the launch of the team.
China has always been a critical market for Samsung, accounting for the largest share of its total sales. In the third quarter of this year, China accounted for 30 percent of the company's total global sales, followed by the United States with 29 percent, other Asian markets and Africa with 16.4 percent and Europe with 12.6 percent.
