Asian Tech Press (Feb 24) -- The Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which triggered a tightening supply of gas used in chipmaking, may push up the cost of the global semiconductor industry chain.

Ukraine is a major supplier of raw materials in semiconductor manufacturing worldwide, including neon, argon, krypton, xenon and other gases.

The troubled country has supplied nearly 70% of global production of neon gas, which is essential for semiconductor manufacturing, and if the supply is disrupted, it may have an impact on the global semiconductor industry.

According to Reuters, a spokesman for lithography giant ASML said Wednesday that it is looking for alternative sources of neon supply in case the conflict between Russia and Ukraine led to supply disruptions.
