Asia Tech Wire (July 12) -- Global sales of new energy vehicles, including battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), rose 13% year-on-year in June, according to market research firm Rho Motion.
Among them, China accounted for more than 60% of sales, with increased EV supply and strong sales by BYD (1211.HK) boosting the market share of PHEVs in China in the first half of the year.
Global PHEV sales for the month were 1.4 million units, of which 860,000 were sold in China, up 25% year-over-year, the firm said.
In addition, European PHEV sales fell 7% to 300,000 units, while sales in the U.S. and Canada rose 6% to 140,000 units.
