Asian Tech Press (Dec 17) -- According to media reports, people familiar with the matter have revealed that Oracle Co., one of the largest software providers, is in talks to acquire Cerner, an electronic medical information company, in a deal worth up to $30 billion. If the agreement is reached, it will become Oracle's largest acquisition ever.

With a current market capitalization of about $23 billion, Cerner is said to be a leading provider of healthcare information technology (HCIT) solutions and technical support services in North America, and hospitals can use its software to store and analyze medical records and other medical data. In 2019, it listed Amazon Web Services as a preferred cloud service provider.

The deal could bring Oracle, which currently has a foothold in healthcare, a significant amount of data to train and improve its artificial intelligence cloud services, helping it further transition to the cloud while boosting its position in the healthcare space.

Sources close to the matter said if it goes well, the two sides will reach an agreement soon. It would be Oracle's biggest deal ever and could be one of the most significant acquisitions of 2021.
