On May 17, Hupan University (Hupan) responded that Hupan is a private non-unit registered in the civil affairs department since its inception, and does not belong to the sequence of academic education. To avoid causing misunderstanding, Hupan University is renamed "Zhejiang Hupan Entrepreneurial Research and Study Center", referred to as "Hupan Entrepreneurial Research Center".
According to public information, Hupan University was founded by nine entrepreneurs and famous scholars, including Alibaba's Jack Ma, the founder of Lenovo Liu Chuanzhi, and the chairman of Fosun International Guo Guangchang, etc. On March 27, 2015, the first batch of students enrolled, and Jack Ma became the first president of Hupan University.
In addition to the basic threshold of "three years of entrepreneurial experience, more than 30 employees, three years of tax payment, and 30 million turnover", Hupan requires three sponsors, including at least one designated sponsor, for the selection of students.
On March 27, 2015, Hupan University officially opened. President Jack Ma gave a speech at the opening ceremony, saying, "My first job was a teacher, so it is my ultimate dream to be the president of a school, and I hope Hupan University will last 300 years, while Alibaba only has to live 102 years."
At the third opening ceremony of Hupan University in 2017, Jack Ma said, "I have spoken, and I am confident that in another twenty years, the CEOs of the top 500 largest companies in China, two hundred of them have a relationship with Hupan University, either have studied here or have applied for jobs here."
In fact, Hupan University is not a university in the true sense of the word, because the recruitment of students is not for the general public. Moreover, because of the stringent admissions criteria, Hupan University cannot be compared with ordinary universities, and those who can enter are entrepreneurs or celebrities.
