Asian Tech Press (Feb 16) -- Huawei could have pushed Samsung out of the top five in global smartphone sales if it hadn't been sanctioned by the United States, an executive said.
A video of Huawei executive Richard Yu Chengdong's latest internal speech surfaced on Chinese social media Tuesday, sparking a buzz. However, the video and related reports have now been removed from the web.
Richard Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group and CEO of Intelligent Automotive Solution Business Unit (IAS BU), said that without the U.S. sanctions, it could have pushed Samsung out of the top five in global smartphone sales by 2020 and into the "Others" segment of the rankings.
In the video, he also revealed new news about folding screen products.
Yu said that Huawei is developing some "revolutionary" and "crushing" folding screen products, but they are not yet in production.
Smart car CEO Yu also mentioned Huawei's electric cars in cooperation with Chongqing Sokon Industry Group,the maker of the Seres SF5 and the AITO Wenjie M5.
He put tough words that the ongoing electric cars strive to surpass XPeng, Li Auto, Nio and Tesla in the first year, and then quickly occupy the market and reach 2 million units in annual sales, and overtake Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Aud in high-end market.
With Huawei's cell phone business sanctioned by the United States, he added, Xiaomi has come back to life, already being on its high horse.
