Asia Tech Wire (July 8) -- Honda Motor and Sony Group will adopt a common platform for building electric vehicles, according to Nikkei.

Honda and Sony will push forward with the commonization of chassis for pure electric vehicles, which they will introduce in 2026, starting with models from both companies that will go on sale in North America, according to the report.

Specifically, this effort will cover Honda's self-developed pure electric vehicles, the "0 Series," and Sony Honda Mobility's first premium pure electric vehicle, the "AFEELA," in which Sony and Honda each contribute 50%.

A chassis accounts for about 10% of the cost of a pure electric vehicle, and adopting a common platform will help cut costs and shorten the development cycle.
