Asian Tech Press (Dec 1) -- Alphabet Inc's Google announced Wednesday that it will update its political content policy to ban political advertising for 2022 Philippine elections.

In a change log, Google said from February 2022, it will not allow election advertisements to run in the Philippines during an election campaign period or a silence period.

Google also said, "In connection with the 2022 Philippines national and local elections, election advertisements will not be allowed to run in the Philippines from February 8 to May 9, 2022."

The Philippines is scheduled to hold national and local elections in May 2022 to elect a new president, vice president and house members. According to the Philippine Constitution, the president serves a six-year term and is not eligible for re-election.

The current president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, is prohibited by the Philippine Constitution from seeking re-election after six years in office and is running for a senator's seat.
