Asia Tech Wire (Sep 25) -- Canada is considering banning the use of Chinese-made software in automobiles following steps taken by the U.S., Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said Tuesday.

She added that the government has made it very clear that it takes China's overcapacity seriously and that it takes security threats from China seriously.

The Canadian government has already announced 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and 25% tariffs on aluminum and steel.

Last month Canada launched consultations on other Chinese goods that could be hit with high tariffs, including battery parts and key minerals.
