Baidu-Geely JV may become first user of CATL's sodium-ion batteries

Asian Tech Press -- Jidu Auto, a car joint venture by Chinese search engine giant Baidu Inc and Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd (175: Hong Kong), may become the first user of CATL's sodium-ion batteries, according to reports.

The top Chinese EV battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) has unveiled its first generation of sodium-ion batteries on Thursday.

Sources close to the matter said that Jidu Auto may consider adopting the latest "sodium + lithium-ion" battery technology and has plans to visit CATL in the near future.

Jidu Auto may use CATL's sodium-ion batteries in its products. Both sides aim to complete industrial upgrading and drive the industry iteration in 2023.
