Asian Tech Press (Jan 24) -- Chinese gaming and social media company Tencent Holdings Ltd has recalled Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison's WeChat public account due to the registrant's application for account transfer.

Morrison's WeChat public account was formally opened on Feb. 1, 2019.

When opening the account, Morrison said, "I am very happy to open my official WeChat account. This will enable me to communicate better with the Chinese community in Australia."

Since then, through the WeChat public account, Morrison has announced some of his activities and wished Chinese people well on Chinese holidays such as the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival.

But Morrison's WeChat public account stopped updating its content after the last update on July 9, 2021. Until January 4, the account issued a notice to its followers that it was going to transfer the account and the original account named "Scott Morrison" will be recalled by Tencent.

Public information shows that Morrison's WeChat public account was registered by a Chinese man of Fujian province. The new account that the original one was transfered to was also registered by a Fujian company.
