Asia Tech Wire (Feb 28) -- Japanese video game company Nintendo Co Ltd will launch a successor to its popular Switch console as early as March 2025, according to Nikkei.

Wednesday's report said it was not yet clear about the detailed specifications of the new product, though the popular game Call of Duty, which U.S. tech giant Microsoft Corp. has brought under its umbrella through a major acquisition and announced for supply for the Switch successor, could serve as a clue.

Hideki Yasuda, analyst at Toyo Securities, said the deep learning super sampling (DLSS) technology from U.S. chipmaker Nvidia Corp. is the key to the Switch's successor supporting Call of Duty.

DLSS is a technology that supplements rough game images with AI to improve picture quality and increase the number of frames per second.

He predicted that with DLSS, the Switch's successor will be able to achieve the same picture quality and frame rate as Sony's PlayStation 5 console (PS5), even if it is a small portable console.
