Alibaba founder on study tour in Europe for agriculture and technology

Asian Tech Press (Oct 20) -- Alibaba founder Jack Ma is on a tour of Europe, the South China Morning Post reported Tuesday, the Chinese billionaire's first trip abroad in more than a year.

The report cited a source familiar with Ma's trip as saying he is currently in Spain on a study tour of agriculture and technology related to environmental issues.

Ma has largely been out of the public eye since he made a public speech last year criticizing China's regulatory system.

The Alibaba-owned Hong Kong media outlet reported that he spent "private time" with his family in Hong Kong before flying to Europe.
