Zelensky: Ukrainian and US teams will hold talks to discuss the possibility of peace talks with Russia
On August 25th, local time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with visiting Norwegian Prime Minister Johann Støre. At a joint press conference following the meeting, Zelenskyy announced that he would meet with visiting U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine, Nikita Kellogg, and that Ukraine would hold talks with the U.S. delegation this weekend to discuss the possibility of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian delegation is in close contact with the United States and other parties. After all parties reach a basic framework for security guarantees for Ukraine, Ukraine will inquire with the U.S. about Russia's readiness for a meeting. He also stated that Norway has joined a program to purchase weapons from the United States, and Ukraine hopes to receive at least $1 billion in support per month from the program. Støre stated at the press conference that Norway and Germany have provided Ukraine with two Patriot air defense systems and associated missiles to help it defend against drone and missile attacks. He will also propose to the Norwegian Parliament $8.5 billion in aid to Ukraine next year.
