U.S. billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX has been allowed to pilot Starlink satellite Internet service in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese government on Wednesday announced the pilot of a low-orbit satellite communications business with no restrictions on foreign shareholding, capital contribution or funding ratio.
The specific pilot organization is SpaceX, and the pilot period lasts until December 31, 2030, during which up to 600,000 users can subscribe to the Starlink service.
According to the Vietnamese government, the types of telecom services to be piloted nationwide include fixed satellite services (Internet access services, etc.) and mobile satellite services (maritime and aircraft Internet access services).
However, it is not clear whether SpaceX has applied for a license to carry out Starlink services in Vietnam.
During his visit to Vietnam last September, SpaceX Senior Vice President Tim Hughes said that the company intends to invest US$1.5 billion in Vietnam in the future.
