Toyota announced this week that it will start construction of Woven City in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, as early as this fall.
Woven City will be a "test course" for self-driving cars, robotics and AI, and will utilize the site of Toyota's former Higashi-Fuji plant in East Japan.
Toyota employees, researchers, and entrepreneurs will gather here, with plans to turn it into a smart city of about 2,000 people in the future.
Toyota plans to operate self-driving EVs such as the "e-Palette" in Woven City, and will also utilize the old factory to conduct in-house tests that cannot be conducted on the road.
