Japanese automotive giant Toyota will invest nearly $44 million in homegrown space startup Interstellar Technologies.

Interstellar announced Tuesday that it has entered into a strategic capital and business partnership with Woven by Toyota, the automotive mobility technology subsidiary of Toyota, in which it will receive a 7 billion yen (about $44 million) investment.

As part of the partnership, Woven by Toyota will receive a seat on Interstellar's board of directors.

Interstellar said the company plans to utilize automotive industry expertise, including Toyota's production methods, to "transition rocket manufacturing into a high-quality, cost-effective, and scalable process."
