Based on the sales performance released by South Korea's five major automakers on January 5, South Korea's new energy vehicle sales increased by 11.1% year-on-year to 450,000 units last year, a record high. New energy vehicles include hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEV). Among them, hybrid vehicle sales increased by 24.9% year-on-year to 356,000 units, a record high. Its sales accounted for 88% of the total sales of new energy vehicles. Electric vehicle sales decreased by 21.2% year-on-year to 91,000 units, falling below 100,000 units. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle sales fell by 36.4% year-on-year to 2,751 units. By brand, Hyundai Motor and Kia's new energy vehicle sales increased by 5.8% year-on-year to 423,000 units, breaking the 400,000 mark for the first time in history.
