On the 13th, the US government announced new regulations on the control of US-made AI chips, which set a computing power ceiling for US companies to sell chips to most countries. The United States has no restrictions on chip sales to 18 key allies and partners. Most other countries will face total computing power restrictions, with each country being able to obtain up to about 50,000 AI GPUs between 2025 and 2027. The United States will also exempt chip sales licenses with lower collective computing power, such as sales to universities and research institutions. U.S. Commerce Secretary Raymondo said that companies will have a 120-day comment period. Two technology giants, Nvidia and Oracle, recently criticized the new US AI chip control regulations. Oracle said that the new regulations could become one of the most destructive policies in the history of the US technology industry, "directly reducing the global chip market for US companies by 80%."
