Tencent's largest shareholder Prosus to buy Despegar for $1.7 billion

Prosus, Tencent's largest shareholder, announced on Monday that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Latin American online travel agency Despegar for $1.7 billion.

The purchase price is $19.50 per share, a 33% premium to Despegar's closing price on December 20, 2024.

Despegar shares surged more than 33% at one point.
