Jinman Han, who was just promoted to president and general manager of foundry business at Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division at the end of last month, said in an internal letter to employees today that Samsung's foundry department has to realize mastering both advanced and mature processes, according to ETNews and Sedaily.
Han said that the most critical task for Samsung's foundry department is to realize the 2nm capacity yield improvement.
Samsung Electronics took the lead in the realization of the world's first GAA process, but there is still a big gap in the commercialization of advanced processes.
"We need to break the vicious cycle of 'window of opportunity closes so we gamble again at the next node,'" he said.
Han believes that the competitiveness of mature processes is equally important, and that the foundry department should work hard to expand the commercial scale of mature processes, and needs to focus on acquiring more customers.
