STMicroelectronics and Amazon AWS collaborate on computing chips
STMicroelectronics said on Thursday that it will launch a new computing chip targeting the booming market for artificial intelligence (AI) data center equipment. The chip was developed by STMicroelectronics in collaboration with Amazon AWS. As large U.S. software companies plan to invest $500 billion to build artificial intelligence infrastructure through the Stargate project, demand for specialized computing chips made by Nvidia is growing, as is demand for chips used in storage, power and communications applications. Vincent Fraisse, general manager of STMicroelectronics' radio and communications chip division, also revealed that the company continues to work with leading optical solutions providers and market leaders in pluggable optical transceivers so that they can use (the chip) in their next-generation transceivers. He did not mention the names of the partner companies.
