Japan's Panasonic said it has not made any decisions on problematic businesses, including its TV business, for now.
The move comes amid rumors that Panasonic Holdings will dissolve its home appliance subsidiary Panasonic Corporation to focus on high-margin areas such as artificial intelligence data centers.
In response, Panasonic issued two statements on its official website on Thursday to clarify.
The statements pointed out that Panasonic Holdings Co. held a briefing session on future group management reforms on Tuesday for the mass media as well as institutional investors and analysts.
As a result, there were some reports that Panasonic would sell or withdraw from the TV business, which could easily lead to misunderstanding.
Panasonic said that it is discussing all possibilities in consideration of achieving fundamental changes in the earnings structure of its problematic businesses, including the TV business.
It emphasized, "As of now, no decisions have been made on any related matters, including sale or exit."
In addition, Panasonic pointed out that there have been some reports in the market about Panasonic's use of the company name and brand, which could easily lead to misunderstandings.
The company made it clear that Tuesday's announcement is intended to reorganize "Panasonic Corporation," a single legal entity under Panasonic Holding Co. that is responsible for providing home appliances, housing equipment, and goods and services for stores and offices, and is not a dissolution of the Panasonic Group.
"The Panasonic brand is an important management asset for the group, and the Panasonic Group will build on this precious brand to transform into a corporate structure that can continue to contribute to customers and society into the future," it said.
