On January 20, Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fazil said that LinkedIn needs to obtain a social media license to continue operating in the country. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has contacted LinkedIn's parent company Microsoft. MCMC announced in July last year that in order to combat cyberbullying and false information, all social media and Internet information service platforms with more than 8 million registered users in the country must apply to the government for an application operating license between August 1 and December 31 last year, otherwise they will not be allowed to continue operating in the country from January 1 this year, and the authorities will also take appropriate legal action against the illegal platforms. MCMC said on the 1st of this month that WeChat and TikTok had obtained operating licenses before the deadline of December 31 last year. Fahmi Fazil said that they are still negotiating with X and YouTube to register for operating licenses, and Meta is in the final stage of obtaining a license.
