Japanese startup SkyDrive Inc.'s "flying car" electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft is reportedly receiving more and more orders from overseas companies, with a total of 373 pre-orders as of the end of February. According to SkyDrive, headquartered in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, it received an order for 50 aircraft from Indian private jet operator JetSetGo Aviation Services Pvt. Ltd. in January. They plan to establish a transportation service using the aircraft in Ahmedabad, the main city of Gujarat in western India. At the end of February, SkyDrive also received an order for 50 aircraft from Dubai-based helicopter operator AeroGulf Services Co. The companies are considering using the aircraft for sightseeing flights around tourist attractions in Dubai. Deliveries of the aircraft may begin in 2026 or later, provided that SkyDrive obtains type certification from aviation authorities, which is a prerequisite for mass production of aircraft. The aircraft, which is about 11.5 meters long and can accommodate three people, began production at the Suzuki Motor Group plant in Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture in March last year. SkyDrive plans to conduct a demonstration flight at the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which opens in April 2025.
