Ionna, an electric vehicle (EV) charging joint venture of eight global automakers including Hyundai and Toyota, has begun deploying a charging network in the U.S.

Founded in 2023, Ionna's joint venture partners include BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis in Europe, General Motors in the U.S., and Honda, Toyota, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors in Asia.

The joint venture celebrated the milestone on Tuesday with an opening ceremony at its headquarters in Durham, North Carolina, USA.

Ionna already has several new charging stations in operation, including those in Houston, Texas and Abilene, Kansas, with six more currently under construction.

Since the end of 2024, Ionna has conducted extensive tests, delivering 4,400 charges on 80 different models to ensure seamless compatibility and performance.

Ionna aims to install more than 1,000 charging piles across the U.S. by the end of 2025, and has a long-term goal of deploying more than 30,000 charging stations by 2030.
