Japanese automaker Honda's joint venture electric vehicle plant with Chinese peer GAC Group officially went into production on Monday.
Located in the Guangzhou Development Zone, the plant has a designed capacity of 120,000 units per year and is the first new-energy vehicle plant in the world that Honda has newly built.
Honda is accelerating its electrification efforts in China to achieve its carbon neutral goal by 2050, with a lineup of 10 purely electric models by 2027, including the e:N series to be released in 2022 and the "Ye" series, a new electric brand to be released in 2024.
Honda said that by 2035, it will realize 100% of pure electric vehicle sales.
