Google reportedly discontinues Android Open Source Project (AOSP)
Google has reportedly confirmed that it will stop maintaining the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and all future Android development will be conducted only within Google. According to Android Authority, Google plans to gradually close the public branch of AOSP, stop supporting related resources, and may restrict code updates other than statutory open source obligations such as GPL. Starting next week, Android development will be completely transferred to Google's internal branches, and AOSP's continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) tools and Android Gerrit may also be closed. This means that in the future, only Google employees will be able to access AOSP's internal branches or submit code, and Android's development process will no longer be transparent to the outside world. Analysts say that Google's move will have limited impact on major mobile phone manufacturers, but individual ROM developers and flashing users may face more technical obstacles.
