Apple to sell limited number of iPhone 16s at reduced prices in China

Apple's official website in China on Thursday announced a New Year's promotion that will kick off from January 4th-7th.

During the campaign period, users can save up to 800 yuan on selected products with eligible payment methods.

Each user is limited to two purchases per product category, with an additional discount for exchanging for a new iPhone.

However, Apple emphasizes that the number of products available for this promotion in Apple Store retail stores is limited and available while supplies last.

The promotion covers almost the entire category of Apple products such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple Pencil, etc., whose quantities are 29,300, 3,500, 530, 8,350, 2,590 and 940 respectively.

Specifically, the iPhone price cuts are mainly focused on iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and the latest iPhone 16 series launched in September last year.

Although the iPhone 16 series has been on the market for the shortest time, it has the largest number of discounted products this time, with the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max having a maximum discount of 500 yuan.

Mac products have the biggest discounts in this promotion, with the 13-inch MacBook Air (M2) available for 600 yuan off, while the 15-inch MacBook Air (M3) has a direct price cut of 800 yuan.

Several other categories are basically reduced between 100 yuan and 400 yuan.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first price cut for Apple's iPhone 16 series in China since its release.

On China's Singles' Day shopping festival in 2024, Apple's iPhone 16 series, which was released just one month ago, saw a price cut.

After receiving a 500 yuan coupon, the iPhone 16 starts at 5,499 yuan, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at 9,499 yuan.

According to analysts, this sudden price cut is not a big one, but it can still help Apple boost a wave of sales before China's Spring Festival and take the lead in the New Year's competition with Chinese cell phone brands.

Regarding the promotion, some Chinese consumers who had just bought the Apple range of products said, "I just bought it not long ago and lost money! Can I get a refund for the price difference?"

Apple's official customer service staff said in this regard, "If the product is purchased within 14 days before the event, it is possible to return the product and buy it again, which can be understood as a kind of refund of the price difference."
