Apple Inc. has discontinued its iPhone hardware subscription program, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.

The people said that Apple's original idea was to allow consumers to own iPhones like a subscription app, where consumers would pay a monthly fee and get a new phone every year, but Apple recently terminated the effort.

Apple is said to have terminated the program, disbanded the team and reassigned it to other projects.
