Apple chip designer Wang Huanyu has returned to China to join a university to teach.

Wang Huanyu, who was involved in the development of Apple's 3nm M3/M4 chips, has taken a job at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) as a professor, doctoral supervisor, and master's supervisor in the School of Integrated Circuits, with a number of PhD and master's enrollment quotas for fall 2025, according to information on the faculty member's personal homepage updated on HUST's official website.

According to the HUST faculty member's personal homepage, Wang's research interests include secure design of IC hardware and its EDA automation, AI-based digital circuit design and its EDA tool development.

Wang received his undergraduate degree from HUST in 2014, his master's degree from Northwestern University in 2015, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Florida in 2021.

His Ph.D. research focuses on the secure design of IC hardware and its EDA automation under the supervision of Prof. Mark Tehranipoor (IEEE/ACM/NAI Fellow, Head of UF ECE Department, Intel Distinguished Chair Professor).

He has worked and interned at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Qualcomm, and Synopsys.

From 2021 to 2024, Wang worked at Apple's Silicon Valley headquarters, engaging in high-performance, low-power CPU design and participating in the development of three Apple M-series chips, of which the world's first 3nm Apple M3-series chips and Apple M4-series chips have been released to the market.
