U.S. AI chip startup Tenstorrent plans to launch operations in Japan to design cutting-edge semiconductors, according to Nikkei.
The company is also considering outsourcing semiconductor production to Japanese semiconductor maker Rapidus, a report said on Tuesday.
Founded in 2016, Tenstorrent hired legendary Silicon Valley chip architect Jim Keller as CEO.
Earlier this month, Tenstorrent announced the closing of a Series D round of more than $693 million at a pre-money valuation of $2 billion.
South Korea's AFW Partners and Samsung Securities led the round, bringing the startup's valuation to about $2.6 billion.
Participating in the Series D round were other investors such as Bezos Expeditions, the investment company of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, LG Electronics and Fidelity.
