Asian Tech Press (Nov 2) -- Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, now CEO of Meta Platforms, said Monday that a high-res touch sensor and a plastic material could work together and potentially support the development of the "metauniverse", CNBC reported.

The company's artificial intelligence team worked with the research university Carnegie Mellon to create a deformable plastic "skin" less than 3 millimeters thick.

The low-cost material, called ReSkin, changes the magnetic field from embedded particles when it comes into contact with other surfaces. The sensor will record the change in magnetic flux and then feed the data to some artificial intelligence software.

"his brings us one step closer to realistic virtual objects and physical interactions in the metaverse," Zuckerberg said in a post.
