Asian Tech Press (Nov 24) -- The decrease in the global market share of Xiaomi phones in the third quarter of this year is related to the "too strong performance" of Apple Inc's iPhone 13 series, an executive of Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp said on Tuesday.
Xiaomi president Wang Xiang said during the company's third-quarter earnings call that the decline in market share of Xiaomi phones in the third quarter was mainly related to the strong performance of Apple's new iPhone 13 series, which were released in the third quarter of this year, resulting in a decline in the share of all Android phones.
Canalys data shows that Xiaomi's smartphone market share in the third quarter of this year was 13.5%, down from 16.7% in the previous quarter, ranking third, and Xiaomi's global second position has been regained by Apple.
In addition, Wang said, "The decrease in our shipments was mainly due to shortage of goods."
Wang admitted that the chip shortage has affected Xiaomi's cell phone shipments of about 10 million to 20 million. In addition, as 4G products are in extreme shortage in the second half of this year, it still affects Xiaomi "quite a lot."
However, Wang added that the chip shortage issue will be improved overall next year, but the company will still face a greater challenge in the first half of the year, while the supply in the second half of the year may be better than the first half.
